Modern petrochemical polypropylene production plant

The facility’s annual production capacity is 150,000 tons of finished products. The plant is capable of manufacturing over 60 grades of polypropylene, providing solutions for a wide range of industrial sectors.

The Moscow Polypropylene Plant is located in the Kapotnya district of Moscow’s South-Eastern Administrative Okrug. It is the sole producer of polypropylene in the Central Federal District. Proximity to key consumers ensures efficient demand fulfillment, while streamlined logistics allow for a rapid response to market needs for medical devices, high-quality packaging, and construction materials.

History

The plant's first name was Workshop No. 5; it was established in 1960 on the premises of the Moscow Oil Refinery (MOR). It was here that a pilot plant with a capacity of 1,000 tons of polypropylene per year was launched. Just six years later, in 1966, the country's first industrial complex for the production of isotactic polypropylene, with a capacity of 10,000 tons per year, was commissioned on the site of the workshop. This was a true breakthrough: for the first time in the USSR, polypropylene was produced in a liquid monomer environment. The new material boasted a high degree of crystallinity, strength, hardness, and heat resistance. The process paved the way for the future production of reliable packaging, products for the food industry, medicine, construction, and other highly sought-after goods.

An era of great change began in 1992. On January 22, the Russian government launched construction of the country's first complex for the production of 100,000 tons of polypropylene per year. The project was implemented under a license from the Italian company Himont, with engineering provided by Tecnimont, with financial participation from Joy Lad Distributors (USA). On December 29, 1995, the complex was officially commissioned. This date became the birthdate of the modern enterprise.
